Paint It Black

Tidwell. That was his name. Mr. Tidwell. It escaped me for a moment. But there it is. David Tidwell. The high school Ethics teacher who introduced me to South Park and The Rolling Stones. Twenty five years ago.

It was an extra credit question on a test. “What did Mick Jagger want painted black?” There were maybe 12 of us in the class; not one of us knew the answer. Mr. Tidwell was aghast “A RED DOOR! He sees a red door and wants it painted black! Do none of you know this song? Paint it Black!? Mick Jagger!? The Rolling Stones?!” The horror!

So Mr. Tidwell played it for us. On a massive portable square boombox I assume came from the same closet as the rolling cart with the big boxy tv and VCR player he used to show us the South Park episode where Grandpa Marsh tries to get Kyle to kill him (we were “studying” euthanasia, natch.)

My introduction to The Rolling Stones. My first Rolling Stones memory. My most recent is last week. When for two days straight, I listened to “Singles Collection: The London Years” on repeat, as I cooked this massive #cookforiran feast for my second supper club at @Hucks_cafe

Here are some pics of that Stones-fueled cooking marathon. And some of the finished products too.
