Seeds
I was about 5 weeks pregnant when I baked my first bagel. At a @breadaheadbakery course in Chelsea, back when we lived on that side of town. It started supremely early for me though— 9am (mother of now-4 year old laughs at herself and her previous life)— and I remember worrying I’d be so sleepy as I had decided to cut out coffee because….pregnancy (I call shenanigans on that one, btw: I had at least a cup every day throughout my pregnancy with Theodore and he’s here in the world, and the little seed that was inside of me at Bread Ahead that morning is not, so…ya know, shenanigans.)
The little (or not so little) things we take for granted. Sesame seed bagels toasted with butter. Everything bagels toasted with cream cheese. Bodega egg and cheeses on poppy seed-topped kaiser rolls. Sleeping past 9am. The excitement (and/or terror) of that first positive pregnancy test. A full-term pregnancy. Family. Health. Youth.
