Day 4: April 2023
April 2023. A non-cooking whirlwind of a month. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t delicious and amazing.
I saw my mother in California for the first time since her stage 4 diagnosis and lung surgery. We ate tacos in parking lots, In-and-Out burgers, diner eggs, hot dogs, tuna melts and sushi.
And I got to see my sister too— an Easter weekend of playgrounds, Blue Bottle, Ferry Building tamales, doughnuts and Mission Chinese.
And then to Amsterdam. To see best friends COVID kept from me for far too long. And tulips. And Vermeer. We ate stroopfwaffels, brains, mushrooms, pizza, cheese, frites, and laughed our asses off in joy.
Finally, to Catalonia to visit other friends— Theo’s godfather, my first post-college buddy— and eat prawns, paella, pulled pork, jianbing and spend time with a friends that are like family and far closer, geographically, than “real” family.
So, yeah— a lot of fun, a lot of food, a lot of joy, but not a lot of cooking. And sometimes that’s ok. And sometimes that’s exactly what is needed.
Family. ♥️. Friends.
