Ripe Figs
In the lead up to Thanksgiving and my mom’s arrival, I was more than a bit anxious. I’d just turned in a 71 page book proposal to my agent and was waiting for her feedback. Theo was sick on and off, and on and off again, and again. General COVID and middle-aged (eek! It’s true— I’m there, but at least that means I get my booster tomorrow 💉) anxiety were driving me batty. As a distraction, I decided to borrow (and then almost immediately order my own) a copy of @yasminkhanstories “Ripe Figs” and cook up some Mediterranean delights.
And what delights they were! Tahini rolls. Halloumi and mint muffins (perfect toddler lunch box treats, btw). Turkish bride soup TO. DIE. FOR. Barbari bread. Beans (actually Red Carlin peas from @hodmedods) with chard. Broccoli with red pepper, red onions and chili. Sea bass with an herby pistachio sauce. A bright winter slaw with apples subbed in for red cabbage.
Everything was wonderful and I can’t wait to cook more of @yasminkhanstories food…and to gift this latest tome of hers to my family for Christmas.
